LUCY'S STORY
Lucy has always been a creator, a maker, a designer. From a young age, she poured her heart into crafting thoughtful, handmade gifts for every occasion. Her journey began with a dull plastic needle and yarn, which she eagerly mastered, soon growing frustrated by the constraints of toddler sewing. At just four years old, Lucy begged for a real needle and thread – determined to learn how to sew.
Finally, she got her wish. One afternoon Lucy sat in the warm sunshine on the sandy shores of Davis Bay with her mother, who taught her the basics of hand sewing. It didn’t take long before Lucy’s skills surpassed her mother’s, as she began creating an array of whimsical, handmade items – lopsided hearts, tiny families of dolls, and loosely stitched bags. She even hand-stitched an entire birthday card, complete with carefully crafted lettering, showcasing her boundless creativity and growing expertise.
Lucy quickly fell in love with the fun prints, amazing fabrics, and the endless possibilities that sewing offered. Over the years, her Jamma would visit, bringing with her a wealth of sewing knowledge that she generously shared with Lucy. Under her guidance, Lucy learned to master a sewing machine, and at the age of 12, Jamma helped her sew her very own dress, a milestone that deepened her passion for the craft.
At just eight years old, Lucy imagined, designed, and created her very first Pocket Pet for a school project. Over the years, she refined the idea, transitioning from hand stitching to using a sewing machine. As her skills grew, so did the complexity of her projects. Today, Lucy continues to learn, sew, and create with a passion, all while dreaming of one day becoming a sustainable fashion designer.
