UPCOMING MARKET: GIBSONS PUBLIC MARKET NOV 3, 2024

Lucy has always been a creator, a maker, a designer. Since a very young age, she always took great care to create thoughtful, homemade gifts for every occasion. She first learned how to sew with a dull plastic needle and yarn, which she quickly mastered and became frustrated with the limitations of toddler sewing. At the age of 4, Lucy begged for a proper needle and thread, and just wanted to learn how to sew.

She sat in the sunshine on the sandy shores of Davis Bay one afternoon with her mother, who taught her the basics of hand sewing. Soon her skills surpassed her mother’s, as she created with little hand sewn items – lopsided hearts, entire families of tiny dolls, loosely stitched bags. Once she even handstitched an entire birthday card, lettering included!

Lucy quickly fell in love with the fun prints, amazing fabrics, and the ability to create anything she wanted. Luckily, her Jamma would visit over the years, and bring with her a wealth of sewing knowledge that she passed along to Lucy. She helped her make her first pillow, taught her how to work a sewing machine, and when she was 12 years old, Jamma helped her sew her very own dress.

Lucy imagined, designed and created the very first Pocket Pet for a school project when she was 8 years old. Over the years, she refined the idea, progressing from hand stitching to sewing machine. As her skills developed, so did her sewing projects. Lucy continues to learn, sew and create – with dreams of being a fashion designer one day.
